China Project Representation

China Project Representation

What is China project representation

Providing overseas marine and offshore clients with a reliable local presence for projects executed in China.

China project representation enables shipowners, operators, design companies and equipment suppliers to maintain visibility and coordination when their projects are being carried out at Chinese shipyards, workshops or supplier facilities.

We act as an extension of the client’s project team, supporting communication with local stakeholders, attending project meetings and site visits where required, following up on agreed actions, and reporting key developments back to the client.

For overseas companies without a permanent team in China, local representation helps reduce communication gaps, improve response times and provide practical support throughout critical project stages.

Who needs China project representation

  • Shipowners with vessel newbuilding, repair, conversion, retrofit or equipment installation projects at Chinese shipyards.
  • Vessel operators undertaking dry-docking, regulatory upgrades or time-critical modification projects in China.
  • Design companies and engineering firms requiring local coordination with Chinese shipyards, fabricators or subcontractors.
  • Marine equipment manufacturers and suppliers requiring a local point of contact during equipment delivery, installation or commissioning projects in China.
  • Offshore contractors managing fabrication, integration or floating asset projects involving Chinese yards and suppliers.

Scope of work of China project representation

  • Local communication interface between the client and Chinese shipyards, suppliers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Meeting attendance, coordination support and follow-up of agreed actions.
  • Regular project updates, site observations, photographs and written reports in accordance with the agreed reporting schedule.
  • Follow-up on key milestones, schedules, documentation, deliverables and issues raised by the client.
  • Identification and escalation of matters requiring client clarification, instruction or decision.
  • Support for local logistics, meeting arrangements and communication between overseas and Chinese project teams where required.
  • Coordination of specialist support, such as site supervision, procurement follow-up, engineering support or commissioning assistance, under separately agreed scopes.
  • China Project Representation is a client-side coordination and follow-up service. Shipyards, suppliers and contractors remain responsible for their own contractual obligations, technical work, workmanship and delivery performance.

Project experience

  • Shipyard retrofit project representation — local coordination and client-side follow-up for overseas stakeholders during vessel modification works at a Chinese shipyard.
  • Marine equipment delivery support — communication and milestone follow-up between an overseas equipment supplier, vessel owner and Chinese shipyard during a shipboard equipment project.
  • Design implementation coordination — local support for communication between an overseas engineering team and Chinese fabrication parties regarding drawings, technical clarifications and outstanding actions.
  • Offshore project stakeholder coordination — project representation support involving overseas clients, Chinese suppliers and local subcontractors during fabrication and project preparation activities.

Project details can be shared subject to client confidentiality requirements and project relevance.

Frequently asked questions

Can you act as our representative at a Chinese shipyard?

Yes. We can act as your local project representative at Chinese shipyards, supplier facilities, workshops and other relevant project locations. The scope can cover a single visit, a critical project phase or longer-term representation.

Do you only work with shipowners?

No. We support shipowners, vessel operators, design companies, engineering firms, marine equipment manufacturers, suppliers and offshore contractors with projects being executed in China.

Does project representation include technical site supervision?

Technical site supervision can be arranged where required, but it is normally defined under a separate specialist scope. China Project Representation primarily focuses on client-side communication, coordination, follow-up and local project visibility.

Can you support a single site visit or meeting?

Yes. We can provide support for a one-off shipyard visit, supplier meeting, project inspection, milestone event or issue-specific follow-up assignment.

How often will we receive project updates?

Reporting frequency is agreed at the start of the engagement. Depending on project needs, updates can be provided after each site visit, weekly, bi-weekly or at key project milestones.

Do you take responsibility for the shipyard’s or supplier’s work?

No. The shipyard, supplier or contractor remains responsible for its own contractual and technical obligations. Our role is to represent the client’s interests locally, provide timely information and follow up on agreed actions.
